“IT’S SO SOFT AND LIGHTWEIGHT. FEMININE WITHOUT BEING TOO FORM-FITTING.
I WAS IMMEDIATELY DRAWN TO THE HOLES IN IT.”

T-shirts can be all things to people, from a status symbol to a memory trigger. What do they represent to you?
T-shirts for me represent comfort. I don’t think I own a single ’status T-shirt’—I’m not actually sure what that is. I’m all about a loose fit. Something that really hangs off of you. Something you can dress up or down. I’ll wear the same T-shirt with sweatpants or a leather skirt. Nothing tight. I think the sexiest T-shirts are ones you can roll around in.
Do you recall your first favorite T-shirt?
No. But I’ll tell you about my favorite one. It’s a Jaws T-shirt that I got on a family trip to Universal Studios Florida in 1993. Not only do I still have it, it is absolutely a staple in my wardrobe. I wear it once a week. I wore it today. Miraculously, it is in perfect condition. It is not of this world.
How would you describe your style?
Boyish, girlish, grungy, feline, happy, funny, easy, nostalgic.
What inspires you?
Movies, music, women, love, sex, talent, the color blue, polaroids, happiness, Paris, sunshine, Tarantino, my friends, generosity, mermaids, mermen.
What do you most like about your line of work?
I love the experiences that come from meeting a new group of strangers, falling in love with them, learning from them, growing with them, growing through the characters, and the heartbreak of saying goodbye.
What’s next?
My new show Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life comes out in January on Fox! It’s an action/adventure comedy about that awkward period of your life between college and finding out who you are. Don’t worry, we are making the mistakes so you don’t have to.
